HABITS - BFA Project
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."
- Will Durant
I believe that positive progression in life is the key to living happy. One way to keep track of your progression is to focus on your daily habits. Though they are small, over time they build on each other and have the power to either lift you up or drag you down.

I decided to focus on common habits both negative and positive. My goal in doing so is to bring awareness to the things we may be doing each day that could easily be replaced with something that is not only bettering your life, but the lives of those closest to you. Granted, some of the habits included are small and may not affect your overall happiness, like biting your nails, or stretching each day, but there are others that are so great they could save your life one day, like not texting and driving.
With help from the internet, family and friends, I was able to gather habits that they identified in their lives that helped make them feel better, and the opposite.

After gathering my list together, I selected a total of 40 habits, 20 good and 20 bad. In the following weeks, I created unique designs for each individual habit. As I created them, I researched any symbols, words, colors, and materials that I could incorporate into the design to showcase the habit. My goal with each design was to allow for the viewer to understand the good or bad qualities of each habit and more importantly get a feeling of what they represented.
My process in creating these designs was to identify symbols or materials that connect with the habit. I incorporate mixed mediums in all the designs.

For example, the "Smoking" habit has actual burn marks and ground tobacco from cigarettes. The "Munch" design, symbolizing snacking has actual crumbs and wrappers from common household snacks. It was important that I add a layer of texture to each design. Other mediums include: paint, ink, tape, glue, and whiteout.
